Leatherhead Responsible Business Network

A key feature of life at school is the preparation of students for the wider world of work. With this in mind Therfield continues to work with the Leatherhead Responsible Business Network, a group of local organisations originally set up by award winning Business in the Community. BitC is a business-led charity with a unique ability to convene the most senior business leaders from UK and global companies. Therfield works directly and exclusively with the Leatherhead Hub – including representatives from Wates, CGI, Unilever, Circle Housing and Menzies alongside Surrey Police and Surrey SATRO – to provide our students with a range of exciting, challenging, and thought provoking opportunities. In the last three years these activities have included:

• Enterprise business days
• Careers fairs
• Dragons’ Den style day for GCSE Business Studies
• Employability skills sessions for the Sixth Form
• Contributions to the ICT curriculum from senior IT staff
• Business Mentor scheme
• Youth Empowerment Workshop

Our first cohort of year 10 students recently completed an employability qualification run by the Hub businesses. This involved a series of sessions covering CVs, interview skills and working routines alongside a varied series of workplace visits including "top-secret" government projects and 3D visualisations of work at the Victoria and Albert museum.

We are planning many of these events again for 2016-17 as well as a range of further activities designed to support and enrich the teaching of the curriculum in lessons and we are excited by the opportunities this offers the students at Therfield.
