Student Homework Information

At Therfield we believe that homework has a clear link to engaging students and increasing the progress made in their learning. We use a range of homework tasks and activities alongside various strategies and projects to support students across all year groups. Homework tasks vary from subject to subject and prioritise developing skills and students for future learning. Homework tasks often lead directly into subsequent lessons or provide students with opportunities to consolidate their knowledge and understanding or develop the skills that they have gained. The aim of homework is to support students in their independent learning with recognition of effort and progress made. Homework tasks vary from longer-term projects (enabling students to broaden and deepen their understanding of topics), to short-term quizzes and multiple-choice questions (designed to assess understanding and knowledge).

We use ClassCharts to set and monitor homework provision across the school. Both students and parents have access to ClassCharts where there is a ‘Homework Calendar’ that provides up to date information on homework that has been set, including the task set, due date and approximate time for completion. Teachers are able to adapt homework tasks and the relevant support for students by setting homework via ClassCharts in line with school policy. If you do not have access to ClassCharts, please contact your child’s Tutor in the first instance.

Please do contact the school if you have any queries or concerns regarding the setting or marking of homework so that we can all work together to ensure your child makes the best possible progress with their learning.
