On Wednesday 22nd February, 14 Year 7’s took a trip to Surrey University to experience a day of learning about microorganisms and their effect on our world. We had to design our own microorganism and we made a Superbug which not only made your hair fall out but caused a nasty rash. It had a cool name , Betty Baldicus but not very cool symptoms. We got to quiz some students on student life, what they do at University and very importantly what time they eat! Looking around the campus we noticed that it was like a mini village and they even have their own launderette.

Lunch in the canteen was awesome as we were given a lunch voucher to spend on whatever we wanted to. In the afternoon we used the microscopes to look at Protozoa, and Amoeba and we could see them swimming around under the microscope which was amazing. The microscopes were much more powerful than the ones we use at school so everything looked really clear. Learning to wash our hands properly was also really interesting as we used a UV light to show up the areas where we accumulate germs.
Surrey University looks like a really good place to study, everyone was really helpful and it was a fun day out.
