School News

On the afternoon of Thursday 29th of September, Therfield School held a Junior School Football Festival for over 80 Year 6 pupils, organised by the devoted, dedicated and committed Year 13 Higher Sports Leadership Group. The sunny weather set the mood for a friendly yet competitive display of football. The schools involved were Trinity, West Ashtead, Oakfield, Greville, the Raleigh and the Dawney.  Parents were invited along to join in the spectacle and to encourage their children, whilst enjoying the unseasonably hot weather.

The tournament was a round robin competition with all the teams playing each other for 6 minutes. David Andrews, Jamie Cook, Jack Artiss and James Hanley all did a brilliant job of refereeing the games. At the end of the tournament, the Leaders held an award ceremony, where Darius Parekh and Alex Wilcox presented the children with certificates; Greville coming 3rd, West Ashtead taking 2nd place and Leatherhead Trinity winning. This was resoundingly accepted as the best part of the afternoon!

The main focus of the Specialist Status at Therfield School is one of Leadership Development. The group of 10 Year 13 students were left in sole charge of organising a hugely successful and enjoyable event, assessed for part of their Sports Leaders UK Higher Sports Leaders Award. Staff, students and parents alike all agreed that the leaders were great role models and outstanding young leaders.

Student Jamie Cook said ‘We’ve worked very hard to develop our leadership and organisation skills; overall it was a really enjoyable experience’
