Therfield were very fortunate to welcome Ian Rose, Paralympic Judo medallist to our school on Wednesday 15th May. His career spanned over 20 years, and Ian now spends his time as a motivational speaker and coach.

Therfield is a Youth Sport Trust Gold Partner School and through this link we able to invite Ian to spend time with a number of our students. Throughout the day he completed two workshops with small groups of students, helping them look at challenges and how to aspire to achieve their dreams. For those that took part, remember you have signed a contract to take some actions in the next few weeks! In his presentation he shared his life experiences, the ‘# Epic’ highs and the lows – how he had to pick himself up, re-evaluate his goals and try again but always safe in the knowledge he had his education to fall back on when his sporting career ‘took a tumble’. Ian’s ‘# Epic’ highs, of which there have been many, include being a Torchbearer and participant in the Opening Ceremony for the London 2012 Paralympic Games, winner of 2 Paralympic, 5 World Championship and 9 European Championship Medals. His story has hopefully inspired many students to pursue their dreams, safe in the knowledge it all starts with them ‘completing their homework!’ Ian happily signed many autographs and loaned his medals out for the photo-shoot! A great day – thank you Ian!
