We are very excited to be carrying out the second ‘Therfield School Sponsored Walk’. This is an exciting event to help raise money for two charities; The Therfield Trust (the Parent’s Association) and chosen charity decide by the school. We saw in 2018 it was a hugely beneficial event for the school as a community and brought everyone at the school together with a real sense of achievement. The event also gives the students a great opportunity to see a beautiful part of the local area they may not be familiar with and hopefully encourage them to visit again.

Last year we raised over £13,500 and we want to beat that total this year!

Details:
When? Friday 18th October (if the weather is poor we will use a reserve day).
Why? School community involvement in raising key funds for the Therfield Trust and chosen charity.
How? Walking as a tutor group to Ashtead Common and then students/staff being able to walk at their own pace on the rest of the route.

We will need the whole school community to come together for the walk to be successful and staff will be walking the route as well as students. This is an opportunity for the whole school community to come together once again and overcome the challenge of the 10 mile walk!

Thanks in advance for all your support. This will continue to be an amazing event for Therfield and we are very excited about how the fundraising will support our chosen charities which are:
  1. Therfield Trust
The Therfield Trust has been working immensely hard over years to raise money that goes towards funding supplies, facilities and opportunities for students across the school.  In recent years they have contributed towards the Drama Studio build and the new Food Preparation room.
  1. Pancreatic Cancer UK
Following the very sad loss of Mr Rob Moorhouse this year from the staff we would like to raise money for Pancreatic Cancer UK.  Rob was a well-loved member of staff by all that knew him and is very much missed here at the school.  We would love to be able to do something special in his honour.

Statistics show that less than 1% of people diagnosed with pancreatic cancer live for more than 10 years and 37% of cases are preventable.  Pancreatic cancer is the 6th most common cause of cancer death in the UK, accounting for 6% of all cancer deaths (2016).  If you would like more information please see the websitehttps://www.pancreaticcancer.org.uk/.
